South Dakota Wind Energy Association Formed
Widespread interest in facilitating more wind energy development in South Dakota finally resulted in the formation of the South Dakota Wind Energy Association (SDWEA) this January. South Dakota has the fourth best wind regime in the country, however, prior to this organization’s existence, it was difficult to gather reliable and accurate information to initiate wind energy development. The association will more strategically utilize its vast wind resource by exchanging ideas and discussing future prospects for wind development. This in turn, will lead to the creation of a library of data available to state leaders, developers and residents, helping aid wind development in the state. The Board of Directors for the SDWEA consists of representatives from each of the primary wind sponsoring organizations in the state. They recently set a goal for 2009 to map out future wind development in South Dakota and to provide a fresh outlook at the future potential for wind energy in the state.
